The Japanese Occupation Period Begins

After delaying for quite some time, finally, yesterday, July 19th, with the list of the newspapers during those period that I made several months back, I start to dig the microfilm at the national library with the news around those period of time.

The first headline of Asia Raja (Asia Raya as it pronounced today) newspaper, April 29th 1942, was Tenno Haika Banzai! The picture of Emperor Hirohito on top of his white horse was the picture of the front page, accompanied the headline. The editorial staffs were mixed of the Japanese propagandist as well as the natives. Most of the native editorial staffs of this propaganda newspaper came from the staffs of Parindra daily publication, Berita Oemoem. Even the layout of Asia Raja has reminded me with the layout of Berita Oemoem. Inside, there is also an introduction of the Japanese language as well as alphabet and how it is being pronounced. It is to be found everyday in one of the pages inside.
